Internet Marketing: What I’ve Learned So Far

In the world of business, advertising and marketing has always been something that could make or break a business. Today this is no different, but we are at a bit of an advantage with the technologies available. Today we have the internet, and the capacity to reach our audience despite location and also for our audience to find our business by using search capabilities. It is our responsibility as web marketers to allow for a business to reach out to their audience in the best possible manner so that they become the experts when a customer is in need. These are some of the golden rules I’ve learned so far.
The Capacity to Reach The Whole World
With today’s technologies allowing us to communicate with a person, regardless of location, we as advertisers and marketers have the ability to reach out to any specific audience we may want to reach. This alone is probably the most powerful aspect of the internet as a marketing tool. One trick is to be able to track where on the internet (what websites and online services) your audience uses the most. This allows us to not only study the online activity of our audience and what exactly they use the internet for, but it gives us an idea of where they will be when on the internet. Obviously this can be a powerful way of spreading our message.
Finding Your Target Audience Is a Must
This usually precedes the first point, but the internet can also allow us to be able to find a very specific audience. Studying competitors and the traffic their websites receive as well as studying traffic on your own website can allow you to see what kind of audience you should be targeting. A lot of this comes from strictly knowing your field and knowing who it is that will be in need of your product. Though if this is still not a clear area to you, the internet allows us to find a target audience using things such as social media and analytics.
Blogging to Show Expertise in Your Field
This, in my opinion, is one of the best things that a business can do for itself when attempting to market via internet. Not only does blogging allow a person or business the opportunity to dig into a certain subject and become more knowledgeable about it. It also allows one to publish this newly found knowledge so that everyone knows that you are indeed an expert in the area. If something new is emerging in your industry, you want to show people that you and your business are on top of it so that they see you more as the go to guys when they are in need. People trust a company that is knowledgeable in the area more than anything. Blogging about this only lets people know how much your business knows, and everyone trusts an expert.
Social Media is Extremely Powerful
Using the web to market alone is powerful, but in recent times, a new technology has emerged that allows us to hyperspeed the marketing process. Social media allows us to literally pick out our audience on certain networks and tailor messages to them in hopes of advertising. This method goes hand in hand with the previous blogging method. Using networks such as Twitter or Facebook to reach out to a network of people, and also hoping that they pass along your message, allows us to not just hope that people will be checking our website for blog updates or new services, etc. But to also inform them every time we have a new post, or a new change, or even any time something new is happening in our industry. If people are concerned they will keep watch on your messages, and thus establishing you even more so as an expert in the area. Using this to also inform everyone of blog updates instead of simply hoping they will visit or subscribe is also extremely powerful.
Being Active in the Community Helps a Lot!
This goes with what I previously said about Social Media. Participating in a network of people and communicating with your audience via these networks not only spreads the word of your name and business, it helps people to trust you more. If you are actively communicating with your audience, and also with other professionals from your industry, you are gaining very valuable knowledge, and building even more of a trust factor among your audience. These are two very valuable things in business, and a good combination of blogging, social media, and general community interaction can allow a company to skyrocket if done correctly.
I’ve learned that following these principles allows a business to succeed greatly in today’s world of internet marketing. The web is a powerful tool and one of the best mediums advertisers and businesses have today. It is contiuously growing and changing, new technologies and services are released at rapid fire rates. Staying on top of what’s available and using it to your best interests is a must in today’s quickly evolving world. Though if used correctly, the internet and it’s services can revive a once dying business, or make a new one more successful than could ever have been imagined.
I hope I’ve made some good points in this article. These are the things I have learned so far and they have helped me market myself as a business and also other clients in the best possible manner. Hopefully they can do you the same good they’ve done me.
